Mondo Gecko is a classic character in the 1987 series of TMNT. He's a mutated gecko who is a good skateboarder (but not a good fighter).

History

Jason was skateboarding on his own self-made halfpipe when a canister of Mutagen came falling from the Kraang ship, and one of them struck him on the head. Having placed pet leopard gecko Lars on his shoulder, he mutated into a 4-foot-tall humanoid leopard gecko and was rejected out onto the streets by his parents. Months pass and Jason spent them skateboarding alone in the shadows until one day, after the Kraang invasion, he was taken in as an errand boy by Fishface and wows Michelangelo with his awesome skateboarding tricks. Jason, nicknamed "Mondo Gecko" from then on, was taught that it’s every mutant for himself, but after seeing Mikey and Casey Jones battle Fishface, who then exposes his true nature by slapping Mondo away, he learns that it is always better to have a friend's back, and so starts the unbreakable bond between turtles and geckos.

Appearances

Personality

He has a typical surfer personality (IE saying dude, gnarly, cowabunga, etc) and gets really ticked off when people don't call him by his real name instead of his mutant name. From what FishFace has told him Mondo looks out for himself such as when Casey almost fell off a building and he laughed and didn't even bother to rescue him (despite the fact that he would've died or become hurt). However, after finding out that other people care about his safety (when Mikey saved him from falling off a building) he started to become more cautious.

Powers and Skills:

Skateboard techniques: His skating skills are excellent. Due to his practice as a human and subsequent enhancement as a mutant, he is capable of travelling high speeds since.

Tail Balance : He can use his tail as an appendage as he uses it to hold his skateboard.

Enhanced Acrobatic: Mondo possesses a high degree of agility upon mutation.

Wall Crawling: Thanks to his mutation, Mondo is capable of climbing surfaces with ease, allowing his adhesive hands to support his own weight.

Trivia

  • He is voiced by Robbie Rist, who voiced Mikey in the original 1990 movies.
  • His shirt has a sign that says Tokay, which might be a reference to a gecko species called Tokay Gecko.
  • Real Leopard Geckos can't climb walls and have eyelids.
  • He replaces Pigeon Pete in the mighty mutanimals.
